Scripture

John 6:35-40

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent Me. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Meditation

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
Latin, c. 12th cent,; Psalteriolum Cantionum Catholicarum, Köln, 1710; tr. John Mason Neale, 1818-66, alt.
Stanzas 1 & 4

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse,
free Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Prayer

Jesus, the long awaited Savior, You hold the keys to victory, and in You we place all of our trust. Your words are true and we cling to Your promises, believing that You came down from heaven to give only what You can give, everlasting life and joy forevermore. And Holy Spirit, we ask for a miracle today. We want to break free from the sins that are entangling us and run to You, the bread of life!
