Advent :: Embracing Christ In The Midst of Christmas Day 18

Thursday, December 15

Isaiah 52:7

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Romans 10:14-15

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Of the Father’s Love Begotten
Aurelius Prudentius Clemens, 348-c. 413; tr. John Mason Neale, 1818-66

Of the Father’s love begotten
Ere the worlds began to be,
He is Alpha and Omega,
He the source, the ending He,
Of the things that are,
that have been,
And that future years shall see
Evermore and evermore.

Oh, that birth forever blessed,
When the virgin full of grace,
By the Holy Ghost conceiving,
Bore the Savior of our race,
And the babe,
the world’s redeemer,
First revealed His sacred face
Evermore and evermore.

This is He whom seers in old time
Chanted of with one accord,
Whom the voices of the prophets
Promised in their faithful word.
New He shines,
The long expected;
Let creation praise its Lord
Evermore and evermore.

Father, as we wait for the finished work of our salvation, open our hearts to be the voice of hope and redemption to those around us. Open our eyes to just one person today who needs a smile, a hug, a word or a lift. For Jesus’ sake, may our feet carry Your heart of love to the world today. Amen.
