I finally finished The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp. While I found the practical Exercises at the end of each chapter thought-provoking and interesting, the rest of the book was a grind. It was tough to finish the book to the end. Each chapter was a bit of story telling to set up the concepts that exercises developed, only, I didn’t feel she was much of a storyteller. Not bad – just not my style. However I did find it interesting to find the number of similarities between The Creative Habit and Linchpin by Seth Godin. The second to last chapter was on Failing and communicated the idea in a similar fashion as Linchpin. This is not surprising as so much of Godin’s ideas and concepts focus on and encourage a creative approach and creative solution.
This book is available at the Josephine Community Library.
Overall, I rate this a 2 out of 5. I couldn’t wait to finish it and move on to something new, but there is valuable information that can be applied and developed to help encourage – The Creative Habit.
